Basundi

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

I am just back from the festive season and boy, what a delicious time it was ! ;)

The best part of the festive season's cuisine every year is the amazing variety of sweets that are prepared across the country. Though I did not travel across the country to get you some nice recipes, I managed to learn some quick and easy to make delicious sweets from friends and family. Let me share with you, one such recipe this week - Basundi!

I am sure, many of you might have tasted it in various forms, but did you know how easy it is to prepare basundi? Just imagine! All you have to do is take ½ litre of milk in a thick bottom pan and allow it to boil on the gas till it becomes 1/3rd the amount it was initially was.

Then add to it, 50gms of sugar, ½ tsp cardamom powder and ½ tsp of piyal seeds. Continue boiling for 5-10 minutes. Remove it from fire and allow it to cool. Garnish it with finely sliced cashewnuts (about 2-3) and almonds(optional).

Serve the delicious basundi to all your friends and yourself of course!

See how easy it is?

Did You Know ?

On an average, a Finnish person (of Finland of course) consumes about 185 litres of milk, 20 kg cheese and around 6 kg butter!!

The largest producer and consumer of cattle and buffalo milk in the world is India.

Milk byproducts found inside stone age pottery from Turkey indicate processed milk was consumed in 6500 BC some thousands of years before the ability for adult humans to digest unprocessed milk had evolved

Milk was first delivered in bottles on January 11, 1878. The day is now remembered as Milk Day and is celebrated annually.

India produces around 60 million tonnes of bufallo milk every year!
